Thumbnail Sketch: - I was born in Northern California
in late 1952. Yes, tis true; a youngster I am not. I lived there with my family until right after I graduated
from high school in June of 1970. That was 39+ years ago! I have lived and worked here in Houston - save for my 4 year stint in the U.S. Navy -
ever since.
- My education was in political science
and Law at the University of Houston.
- My Degrees: B.S., Political Science and J.D., Jurisprudence were awarded in May 1980, and December
1983.
- I was licensed to practice in
September 1984. I have practiced only criminal law since I successfully ended my last major civil case in Dec.
1990.
- For fourteen years I worked for a
firm that almost exclusively did traffic and other Class C (non-jailable) Misdemeanor criminal cases.
- After
leaving to start my own practice, I began to specialize in representing CDL (Class A and
B Commercial Driver's License) holders.
- Since then I have also broadened my practice to include all levels of alleged criminal activity,
from the most serious; the "M word", to the frankly ridiculous;
disrupting school (an inopportune sneeze is about all it takes).
- I also became a lobbyist and successfully authored and achieved the passage of a change to
the law that now allows CDL holders to have deferred adjudication for non-moving offenses.
- Why that is important is a v-e-r-y l--o---n----g story.
We got that done without spending, gifting, contributing etc. a dime to the legislators who
helped us. I did that for the truck drivers through the sheer power of persuasion.
- I was involved for years in the fight to keep the red light cameras
and other electronic traffic enforcement measures out of our State. But for subtrefuge on the part of its proponents,
we would have kept winning that fight, too. Red Light Cameras are not criminal
traffic charges like regular tickets are. Accordingly, we do not handle red light camera tickets . . . because they
aren't tickets, they're invoices!
- I
am a bar leader and
- former President
and Lifetime Director of the Harris County and (Statewide) Municipal Justice Bar
Association of Texas.
- I serve on the Texas Office of Court Administration Legislative
Working Group.
- I am a Member in good standing
of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
- I will shortly renew my membership in the both College of the State Bar of Texas,
and
- Houston Bar Association
and join, for the first time, the Harris County Criminal
Lawyers Association.
I am
serious about learning as much as I can in aid of your rights and interests, and of staying current in that knowledge so I
can use it to best represent and protect your interests. - From June 2003 - Apr 2004 I shared office
space with the Monks Law Firm. They helped me get started at no cost. They were very gracious with me, but we
are natural competitors. Being in the same spaces suited neither of us , and so I sought and found alternative business
offices.
- From Apr 2004 mid 2008, my office was
located at 9950 Cypresswood Dr., suite 240 (Cypresswood and 249). The building was past its prime and the owner would
not invest in keeping it in tip-top shape. Plus he wanted higher than market rates for sub-par property.
- After Hurricane Ike I moved to our current offices
at 3920 FM 1960 West, Suite 335. Result: HERE WE ARE!
- I am well and truly married, and very happily so, to wonderful woman and live in Northwest Harris County.
We are here to protect
you, your rights, your freedom, your pocketbook, your driving privileges, your employability,
